E. coli Count Kit
Rapid quantitative measurement of viable E. coli in water samples
The E. coli Count Kit enables rapid quantification of viable Escherichia coli cells in water samples. Used with the rqmicro.COUNT instrument, the assay delivers standardized flow cytometry results within 2 hours, providing fast and reliable quantitative data on contamination levels.
The assay shows strong correlation with standard cultivation methods while significantly reducing time-to-result, enabling faster microbiological decision-making in water quality monitoring and process control.
The E. coli Count Kit complements the E. coli Detect Kit, which provides rapid qualitative presence/absence results at very low detection limits. In contrast, the E. coli Count Kit delivers quantitative information for situations where microbial load and concentration are required.

Quantify E. coli in 2 Hours
Rapid, cultivation-correlated enumeration for faster operational decisions
Reliable water quality management depends not only on detecting E. coli, but on understanding its concentration. While qualitative methods such as the E. coli Detect Kit provide fast screening, many applications require quantitative data to assess contamination levels, verify treatment performance, and track system dynamics.
The E. coli Count Kit delivers rapid, cultivation-correlated quantification of viable E. coli cells within 2 hours. This enables operators and laboratories to move from simple detection to actionable numerical insight—supporting faster, better-informed operational decisions across the entire water system.
Immediate feedback on treatment performance
Quantitative results within hours allow operators to verify disinfection efficiency and process stability on the same day. Deviations can be identified and addressed without waiting for culture-based confirmation.
Improved maintenance and operational troubleshooting
Quantitative data helps distinguish between isolated events and systemic issues in treatment or distribution infrastructure. Maintenance teams can prioritise interventions based on measured microbial loads rather than delayed indicators.
Faster response to distribution system events
Rapid E. coli quantification supports targeted investigation during pressure losses, network repairs, or contamination alerts. This reduces uncertainty and enables quicker decisions on flushing, isolation, or resampling.
Enhanced source water and intake monitoring
Near-real-time E. coli concentrations provide clearer insight into raw water quality variability. This supports dynamic adjustment of treatment strategies and early warning of upstream contamination events.
Workflow
Simple workflow. Standardized results.
The E. coli Count Kit is designed for rapid laboratory analysis with minimal hands-on time.
1
Prepare the sample
Concentrate sample from 100 mL to 1 mL using filtration. Add resuspended microorganisms from the filter into the E. coli Reaction Tube.
2
Reaction
Allow the sample to react with the staining reagents for 60 minutes at room temperature.
3
Measure
Transfer the sample from the E. coli Reaction Tube to the rqmicro.COUNT Cartridge. Register the sample in the instrument and start the analysis.
4
Retrieve Results
Retrieve E. coli cell concentrations in cells/100 mL on the instrument and on the Cloud Solution.

Discover Applications
The E. coli Count Kit is suitable for applications where rapid quantitative information is required to assess microbial contamination levels. It supports monitoring of drinking water treatment processes, source water quality, distribution systems, water reuse applications, and industrial water systems.
The assay provides a valuable tool for operators and laboratories that require more than qualitative presence/absence information, enabling faster interpretation of contamination severity and improved process control.
